Lighting
Lighting is one of the biggest factors within photographic makeup you must consider the following when creating a look fit for photographic purposes:
Brightness – The brighter the lighting the lighter the makeup pigment will appear – application will need to be strong and heavier
Heat – Spot lights or back lights on set can be hot so it is important that the makeup used is correct for these conditions – avoid oily makeup. Powder will be needed to reduce and remove shine
Matte makeup is preferable within photographic makeup as it lasts longer and reduces glare, however pearlised finishes can catch the light beautifully mixing the contrasts of the two finishes can really enhance a makeup
Lighting
Corrective or body makeup may be required as lighting can show up everything, the makeup will be needed to balance out any high colour or blemishes
Photographic lighting wipes out natural highlights and shadows created by facial contour. Use highlighting and shading techniques to define the bone structure
Harsh lines are emphasised more on camera, products must be blended well to avoid showing up particularly the jawline and hairline
It is important to even out the skin on camera as any natural shadows caused by skinfolds or creases under the eyes are highlighted or shaded to sharpen or soften areas of the face
What is the purpose of a mood board?
Mood Boards
Range of images that become a visual guide
Reflect a theme or original idea
Develop a design
Establish a theme
Use descriptions
Attach adornment materials
Hair styling ideas
Your mood boards represent your work and you as an artist so make them stand out and creatively inspiring to look at
Fantasy / Editorial
It refers to anything that is new and experimental
There is no right or wrong, let your imagination run free, all passions are different as are experiences
Think outside the box your ideas are individual
Black & White
When working with black and white photography you need to take into consideration the colours that the subject will be wearing
Some colours will not come up under lighting and you must be aware of this
The best match of foundation is to match to the models own skin tone
All other aspects of the makeup should be darker to show up in the final visual
Black & White
Bridal
Bridal Makeups can range from traditional to cultural or even themed
A trial should always be carried out beforehand
Make note of products used to refer to on the day (face chart)
Consider how the hair will be on the day as this may affect the makeup; as to how soft or strong it will be
Consider long lasting makeup that will stay on perfect all day
The main aim is to create a natural look to enhance the brides features
Don’t ever dramatically change a brides look unless they ask you to do so
