Childbirth

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

Childbirth
The entire process of labour and vaginal birth takes an average of 13 hours in women giving birth for the first time, and 8 hours in women who have given birth before.

Phases
Childbirth progresses in three stages: labor, delivery of the baby and delivery of the placenta. Unless labor is cut short by a C-section, all women go through labor, the first stage of childbirth. Labor is in turn broken down into two phases: latent and active phase.

Phase 1
  • This stage is further broken down into latent phase and active phase.
  • In early labor, your contractions are regular, but still quite far apart. Cervical dilation in latent labor is from 0 to 6 centimeters and the dilation is gradual.
  • During the active phase of labor, your cervix will dilate more rapidly.
