Lesson 3: Reading + Research Phase
You & your group:
  • Read novel outside of class
  • keep journal/log of key points, character developments, and examples of literary terms 
  • Meet in DALTON/MT to discuss your findings / update each other

You & your group:
  • develop a project
  • explore how your novel utilises literary terms and concepts
(e.g. prezi presentation, powerpoint, a video, web page, poster)
Must include:


What to include
  • Summary of the plot
  • analysis of main characters and their development
  • discussion of the setting and it influences the story
  • examination of the author's use of 3 literary terms

5: Presentation (week 15)

(all hours in week 16):
A. Groups present their projects to the class. This can be done live, through a video, or through a website showcase, depending on the project format.
B. Each presentation must cover all the required elements and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the literary terms and how they apply to their chosen book.
C. Each person of the group must have a turn at speaking.
D.  Presentation are between 5-7 minutes long.
E. Each groups presents and hands in their literature project.

Grading Criteria

A. Understanding of Literary Terms: Demonstrated understanding and correct application in the analysis.
B. Depth of Analysis: Insightfulness and thoroughness in discussing the plot, characters, setting, etc.
C. Creativity and Presentation: How well the group presents the information and engages the audience.
D. Collaboration: Evidence of effective teamwork and equal participation.
E. Reflection: Depth of personal reflection and connection to the book's themes.

Literary Terms
Mandatory elements:
1. Plot - The sequence of events that make up a story, including the conflict, climax, and resolution.
2. Setting - The time and location in which a story takes place, which helps establish the backdrop and mood.
3. Characters - The individuals who participate in the action of a literary work. They can be categorized as protagonists (main characters), antagonists (opposing the main characters), or supporting characters.
