What are adjectives? 
Adjectives - bijvoeglijk naamwoorden
She is wearing a colourful dress
What kind of dress is it? 
Adjectives ONLY give us more information about nouns (zelfstandig naamwoorden - people, places, things, ideas)

Other adjectives: beautiful, simple, large, awful, good, happy

Adjectives in a sentence
Most of the time before a noun 
He is a slow driver = slow tells us what kind of driver he is

Sometimes after a linking verb. Most common one is 'to be'
That film is fantastic.
Fantastic tells us more about the film

What are adverbs? 
Adverbs - bijwoord
Max Verstappen drives fast in the F1 races.
They ran quickly in the hallway
Adverbs - give us extra information about the way something happens. It adds information to the verb.
How does Max drive? 
How did they run?

Adverbs can also .....
...add extra information to adjectives, other adverbs and the whole sentence.

James is wearing a really bright jumper.
Max Verstappen drives very fast.
John and James will arrive shortly. 
Unfortunately, I can't make it to the concert tonight.

How is an adverb made? 
Adjective + ly  
Beautiful + ly = Beautifully or Short = Shortly

Spelling rules: 
Ends in '-ic' + '-ally' Magic = Magically, Fantastic = Fantastically
 Ends in '-y', remove the '-y' and add '-ily' Easy = Easily
Ends in '-le' remove the '-e' + '-y'  Simple = Simply

Irregular  adverbs
There are also irregular adverbs. The adverb for good is  well - She's a good performer. She performs well. 

A few adverbs have the same form as the adjective.
Fast (snel), fair (sportief/eerlijk), low, high, hard, long, late, and straight (onmiddelijk) - He's a fast driver, He drives fast
