A preposition is a word or group of words used before

  • a noun (zelfstandig naamwoord),
  • pronoun(I, You) ,
  • or noun phrase
to show
direction, time, place, location, spatial relationships,

Prepositions of Direction (movement)
To refer to a direction, use the prepositions "to," "in," "into," "on," and "onto."

    She drove to the store.
    Don’t ring the doorbell. Come right in(to) the house.
    Drive on(to) the grass and park the car there.

Prepositions of Time
To refer to one point in time, use the prepositions "in," "at," and "on."

    Use "in" with parts of the day (not specific times), months, years, and seasons.
    He reads in the evening.

Use "at" with the time of day. Also use "at" with noon, night, and midnight.   
She often goes for a walk at night.

    Use "on" with days.
    I work on Saturdays.

Confusing ones:
Among / Between
'Among' and 'between' are almost exactly the same in meaning. However, 'between' is used when something is placed between two objects. 'Among', on the other hand, is used when something is placed among many objects.

Beside / Besides
'Beside' - without an s- means 'next to'. For example, "Tom is seated beside Alice." In contrast, 'Besides' - with an 's' - states that something is in addition to something else. For example, "Besides math, Peter is getting an A in history.
