Grammar 2 'aangeplakte vraag'

Een aangeplakte vraag gebruik je om erachter te komen of degene met wie je praat er net zo over denkt als jij.

NL = toch? hè? vind je niet?

Het verhaal van John is heel verdrietig, toch?

Grammar 2 'aangeplakte vraag'

Als de zin bevestigend is (+), is de aangeplakte vraag ontkennend (-).

Als de zin ontkennend is (-), is de aangeplakte vraag bevestigend (+).

He was late, wasn't he?

He wasn't late, was he?

Grammar 2 'aangeplakte vraag'

Als er in de zin een vorm van 'to be' staat (am, are, is, was, were)

of een hulpwerkwoord (can, could, will, would, must, should) dan herhaal je deze in de aangeplakte vraag.

He could swim, couldn't he?

They can't drive a car, can they?

Grammar 2 'aangeplakte vraag'

Als er in de zin GEEN vorm van 'to be' of een hulpwerkwoord staat, dan moet je een vorm van 'to do' gebruiken.

They like English, don't they?                      (tt, geen shit)

They don't like English, do they?                (tt, geen shit)

He works at Albert Heijn, doesn't he?       (tt, wel shit)

He doesn't work at AH, does he?                (tt, wel shit)

He worked at AH, didn't he?                          (VT)

He didn't work at AH, did he?                        (VT)

Grammar 2 'aangeplakte vraag'

Let op!

Als er no, nothing of never in een zin staat, is het ONTKENNEND!

There is nothing left, is there?

Extra aanvulling!! Let op!!!

Zinnen die beginnen met 'I am', 

krijgen als aangeplakte vraag aren't I ?

Als de eerste werkwoorden in de zinnen 

have / has / had (+ voltooid deelwoord) zijn, dan herhaal je 'have', 'has' of 'had'  in de aangeplakte vraag.

Let bij have/has/had goed op de verkorte vormen!!

Can/Could

She can skateboard very well.
He could skateboard like a pro.

can = kan, kunnen
could = verleden tijd van can

Can/Could

Met can/could geef je aan dat je iets beheerst, 

bijvoorbeeld lopen of een vreemde taal spreken.
Ook gebruik je deze ww als je praat over een vaardigheid.

I can speak two different languages.
He can play basketball.

Could

Could is de verleden tijd van can.
Gebruik je ook voor suggesties en beleefde vragen.

You could ask her. > suggestie
Could you give me the salt, please? > beleefde vraag

Ontkenning van can / could

De ontkenning van can = can't of cannot

I can't speak two different languages. 

He cannot  play basketball. 

De ontkenning van could = couldn't

She couldn't dance very well. 

'To be able to'

Met 'to be able to' geef je aan 

dat je in staat bent om iets te doen of dat iets mogelijk is.

I am able to run a marathon.

Vormen

am able to - are able to - is able to

VT van 'to be able to'

De verleden tijd van 'to be able to' is

was / were able to.

TT  He is able to run a marathon.

VT He was able to run a marathon.

VT They were able to run a marathon.

Ontkenning van 'to be able to'

TT:

He isn't able to

They aren't able to

He wasn't able to

They weren't able to

To be able to

Als iets jou tijdelijks wordt opgelegd van tijdelijke aard, dan betekent dat dat je het tijdelijk niet kunt maar later wel weer.

Voorbeelden:
I broke my leg, so I am not able to ride my bicycle.
She isn't able to swim because of her back injury.
