First let's get back to the future tense with "going to"...

When do we use "going to"?

Use  "going to" for:

plans and intentions for the future when a decision has already been made.

Example:

Mrs Lucky is going to meet a friend in town.

predictions for the future that are based on present evidence.

Example:

The sky is blue - it is not going to rain. So Mrs Lucky is going to leave her umbrella at home.

Now, let's look at making predictions with "going to"

"Going to"

- voorspelling met bewijs

"I see dark clouds, it's going to rain"

- plan/beslissing dat al vaststaat/ eerder is genomen

"I am going to meet her for coffee tomorrow"

"Will"

- voorspelling zonder bewijs

"I think it will rain tomorrow"

- spontaan plan/beslissing

"I will just go now" /"I'll help you"
