Texas (/ˈtɛksəs/ ⓘ TEK-səss, locally also /ˈtɛksɪz/ TEK-siz;[8] Spanish: Texas or Tejas[b]) is the most populous state in the South Central region of the United States. It borders Louisiana to the east, Arkansas to the northeast, Oklahoma to the north, New Mexico to the west, and has an international border with the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas to the south and southwest. Texas has a coastline on the Gulf of Mexico to the southeast. Covering 268,596 square miles (695,660 km2) and with over 31 million residents as of 2024,[5] it is the second-largest state by area and population. Texas is nicknamed the Lone Star State for its former status as the independent Republic of Texas.[10] 1836–1846

Stephen Graham Jones (born January 22, 1972) is a Blackfeet Native American author of experimental fiction, horror fiction,[1] crime fiction, and science fiction.[2][3][4] His works include the horror novels The Only Good Indians, My Heart Is a Chainsaw, and Night of the Mannequins.

Jones is the Ineva Baldwin Professor of English at the University of Colorado where he has been a faculty member since 2008.[5][6]

Word order

Wat is de volgorde voor een Engelse zin: 

Onderwerp - Werkwoord - Object

Voorbeeld: Charlie bought a new car

Als je een bijwoord moet toevoegen staat deze voor het werkwoord (behalve bij het werkwoord to be). 

Staan er twee werkwoorden in de zin dan staat het bijwoord er tussenin. (Bijwoorden geven vaak aan hoe vaak iets gebeurt.)

Voorbeelden word order

We rarely go to the cinema

She is often away during the weekend. 

Mason can sometimes work on saturday. 

You can not always get what you want. 

The Passive 

In de lijdende vorm gaat het er niet om wie of wat iets doet, maar wat er met iemand of iets gebeurt. Als je een zin wilt maken die het lijdend voorwerp of het meewerkend voorwerp meer centraal stelt, dan kun je een zin in de passive zetten (de lijdende vorm).

The Passive

• The passive: het werkwoord to be + een voltooid deelwoord

1. Zoek het lijdend voorwerp (of meewerkend voorwerp) in de actieve zin. John has bought many houses.
2. Zet voorop in de nieuwe zin.: Many houses ...
3. Zoek het werkwoordelijk gezegde = persoonsvorm + andere werkwoorden.: John has bought many houses.

The Passive

• The passive: het werkwoord to be + een voltooid deelwoord

1. Bepaal de tijd van het werkwoordelijk gezegde uit de actieve zin.           has bought = present perfect
2. Zet om volgens het rijtje 'Alle tijden van de passive'.                                       has bought = have (many houses = meervoud) been bought
3. Herschrijf de zin (laat eventueel het onderwerp uit de oorspronkelijke zin weg).: Many houses have been bought (by John).
