Geven aan hoe iets gebeurd.
Hoe? Bijvoegelijk naamwoord + ly (meestal)
Waar?  Voor het bijvoegelijk naamwoord, bijwoord of hoofdwerkwoord, aan het eind van den zin
That is a very nice guy.
He reads really quickly.
He awkwardly sat next to each other.

Een adverb of degree geeft aan in welke mate en staat :
1. Voor het bijv.nw waar het iets over zegt
     2. Voor het bijwoord waar het iets over zegt
Bijvoorbeeld :
1. She looks quite nice
   2. She walks very slowly
