When do we use the passive?
  • When we want to focus more on the action than the person who does or did the action. 

  •  When we don't know or don't want to say who does or did the action, or if it's obvious.

How do we make the passive?

To be + past participle (voltooid deelwoord)

Active: A zebra stopped the traffic.
Passive: The traffic was stopped by a zebra

Active: The teacher teaches the students
Passive: The students are taught (by the teacher).
