So.. the present simple is pretty... simple.
But what about the continuous form? How and when do we use the present continuous?

Don't start stressing. The present continious is AS easy as the present simple! Watch!

You use the pr. cont. when:

  1. Something is happening right now
  2. Something is going to happen very soon
  3. When you are annoyed by something


Keywords: (right) now, at the moment
always and never can be used to express irritation

Present Simple: Feiten, gewoonten, regelmatigheden

Present Continuous: gebeurt NU, is binnenkort klaar.

I play soccer
 --> ‘I play soccer’ tells us that playing tennis is something the speaker always does. It is part of a routine or habit. We can call this a permanent situation.

I am playing soccer
--> ‘I am playing soccer’ tells us that the speaker is playing soccer right now. Soon the game will be over. We call this a temporary situation.
