Daarvoor moet je kijken naar het soort zin waarin deze voorkomt en het zelfstandig naamwoord dat erachter kom

Je gebruikt much in vragende en ontkennende zinnen als het zelfstandig naamwoord ontelbaar is:

(ontelbaar = work, information, gas, bread, rice, love)

In vragende en ontkennende zinnen als het zelfstandig naamwoord telbaar is:

A lot of

In bevestigende zinnen (of het zelfstandig naamwoord telbaar of ontelbaar is, maakt niet uit):

Het is mogelijk om in bevestigende zinnen 'much/many' te gebruiken, maar het is gebruikelijker om 'a lot of' te gebruiken.
