Present Perfect (simple)
- to talk about situations that started in the past and the result is now
- we often use 'for' and 'since' and with the present perfect
- Other signal words often used with the present perfect:
ever, already, never, often, so far, now,  yet, recently

The manor house has stood on this spot for over two hundred years.
 (The house is still standing here.)

Unfinished/finished time periods
Present perfect: completed actions in the past, that may occur again

Orlando Bloomhas has won two Oscars.
(He is still alive and may win some more.)

Sean Connory won four Oscars during his life. 
(He is dead and can't win anymore.)

Present Perfect (simple)
The present perfect is used after superlatives and numbers:
the greatest, worst, first, second

It's the worst sports show I have ever seen and the first I have ever complained about!

Present perfect: Unfinished time
France has governed the island of Reunion since 1642.
(not finished)

Past simple: finished state/action
France governed the Ivory Coast from 1893 to 1960.
(reference to time in past)

Used for ongoing situations and actions.

I have been reading that book by Dan Brown - it is really exciting!

Vocabulary
 Which words do you use in a press release? (1/2)
1. Avoid superlatives: words like “absolutely,” “outstanding,” “unique,” “amazing,” and so forth.

Press releases : the text should be informative and only contain important information. 

2. Avoid words that denote uncertainty or don’t bear any important information.

3. Use fewer words. Eliminate the words you can do without.

4. Use facts, no personal opinions.

Your message must be understood by the reader you target.

Be crystal clear and avoid creative, flowery language.
A press release is meant to inform, not to entertain.

The tone should be objective/neutral and not informal/overly exaggerated.

 Think of people you interact with in life. 
Do you like hanging out with people who talk about themselves all the time? 

The likelihood is you don’t. 
And neither will your audience. 
Avoid releases that take a constant first person, “I” perspective.

Outlines the fundamentals of writing a press release.
Requirements Press Release draft + final
  1. Include cover page ON A SEPARATE SHEET.  So, add a page break before you start your press release.  See Teams environment Lesson 2 for cover page requirements.
  2. Include TextAnalyzer - Full B1 level - tips in LessonUp, lesson 3.
  3. You will write in the 3rd person, not in the 1st person.  Not in the I-form.
  4. Upload your final documents in Word format only.  Not in a PDF.
  5. Word count is 350 words (+/- 10%)
  6. See deadlines in Teams environment.
