Infinitive
An infinitive is a verb that can be used as a:
noun, adjective and adverb

"I need to win"
I'm winning the tournament.

It is usually made by adding "TO"

Usage as a subject of a sentence:
To travel is exciting. (het reizen is spannend)

After certain verbs:
She wants to learn. (het leren wil ze)

To express purpose (why)
"He studies hard to pass his exams."

Gerund
The same can be done with verbs+ing:

He likes working at home. ( het thuis werken)
Many people like joining a band. (het aanmelden leuk vinden)
