Past simple - > ww + ed = kort durend of eenmaling
(walked, talked, handed, punched, kicked, etc.)

Past continuous - > was/were + ww + ing = duurde iets langer
(walking, talking, handing, punching, kicking, etc.)
'Yeah, we were talking but it never led to anything.'
