What is a peanut butter answer? Answer in English

ABCD questions (step by step)

1. Look at the title, picture and check what the general idea (grote lijn) is

2. Read the question and underline which paragraph you have to read. Check if the question has useful information (like information that CITO gives you or an indication which part of the text you have to read/look at). 

3. Read the text. Underline linking words. 

4. Remove the 'peanut butter' answers!

5. Tips to get the correct answer: 

-how often is an answer mentioned (correct answers are often mentioned more than once)

-does the answer fit the general idea? (past 't in de grote lijn)? 

Words that make answers wrong

Groep 1: no room for nuance

Dit gaat om woorden in de antwoorden die geen 'nuance' toelaten. De betekenis van 'nuance' is subtiel onderscheid. 

Denk aan woorden als: 

NL: altijd, alleen, het meest

EN: always, only, solely, most

SP: solamente, más, etc. 

Groep 3: verkeerde uitleg door CITO

Er zijn twee dingen, tekst zegt x EN y, antwoord zegt x MEER DAN y

Bijvoorbeeld: text says: havo students are as cool as vwo students. Answer says: havo students are cooler than vwo students. 

NL: vooral

EN: more X than Y, to prefer

Speciaal geval: WAAROM in antwoord

Heel vaak als er 'explain why' in een antwoord staat, is dat antwoord fout. 

Hier een voorbeeld:

De reden waarom wordt niet genoemd, dus het verkeerde signaalwoord. Dat geldt vaak voor 'explain why'. 

Dat is natuurlijk niet altijd het geval, maar bij twijfel: ga voor de statistiek.

Does that mean there are peanut butter answers? 

Denk aan datgene wat een antwoord fout kan maken.
