When do you use the present continuous?

• Something is happening at the moment.

For example...

I am screaming at my computer right now.

For example...

The cats are pushing all the buttons in the elevator.

Pay attention!

When the verb ends on an -e, you remove it when you add -ing.

to dance - I'm dancing

How do we form the present continuous?

Subject + to be + ing-form

I am talking right now.

You are listening at the moment.

He/she/it is running today.

We are shouting right now.

You are crying at the moment.

They are dancing now.

=>now, today, at the moment, right now

Pay attention!

When the verb has only one emphasis, one syllable and ends on a vowel + consonant, you double the last consonant.

Als het werkwoord één lettergreep heeft en eindigt op een klinker + medeklinker verdubbel je de laatste medeklinker.

Pay attention!

This does not apply to verbs ending on a 'y'.
