Rules

1. A / An

• Used with singular countable nouns.

• Mean "one."

• "A" before consonant sounds: a book, a dog, a house.

• "An" before vowel sounds: an apple, an hour, an elephant.

• Used with plural countable nouns or uncountable nouns.

• Often means "a few" or "a little," not exact.

• Common in positive sentences.
