Modal verbs 
Om aan te geven dat je iets kan, moet, mag, zou moeten, niet mag, niet kan etc. etc. gebruik je modale hulpwerkwoorden oftewel modal verbs. 

Een modal verb in zijn eentje komt niet voor: er volgt altijd een ander werkwoord op. Je mag IETS niet, je moet IETS. Dat IETS geef je aan door een ander werkwoord.

Can = kunnen en mogen, can't is niet kunnen en niet mogen

Bijna alle modal verbs, behalve "have to" en "be able to" die je ook moet kennen, hebben maar EEN vorm, voor alle personen. Ze worden altijd gevolgd door een ander werkwoord in de infinitief (hele werkwoord)
