Present Simple
  • I walk, you walk, he/she/it walks
  • Habits/repeated actions: I always get up at 6
  • Facts: Water boils at 100 degrees
  • Verbs related to senses: It sounds like a good idea
  • Mental state/preference: I hate/love that show
  • Fixed times: The train leaves at 8
  • With certain words referring to the future: before, after, as soon as, if, until, when. Sometimes you will have to use "will"

Present continous
  •  To be + verb + ing: I am working - he/she/it is working
  • When an activity is happening now: I am teaching grammar.
  • Plans for the future: He is taking part in the contest tomorrow
  • Irritating/surpising habits with "always" and "constantly: He is always picking his nose during class.

Future Forms: Future events
  •  Will/shall + verb: It will rain tomorrow.
  • You can choose either will or shall in sentences with "I" or "we":  I will/shall be there tomorrow.
  • When asking about someones preference or decision, use shall: When shall I arrive at your party?
  • When asking for information use will: Will your train arrive at 7 P.M.?

  •  Intentions: I think I will/shall stay home this evening
  • Wish: I hope they will/shall come to the party
  • Assumptions: I am sure we will/shall have fun
  • Promises: I will/shall pay your money back
  • Offers: We will/shall pick you up if you like
  • Prediction: I will/shall be rich one day

Future: present continuous
  •  Use the present continous when plans have been make already: I am going out for dinner next week.
  • Or when things have been decided already: I am going to buy a new car
  • Or when there are clear signs something is going to happen: The bridge is open; I'm going to be late for school.

  •  Use the simple present when things will happen at a certain time: Your trains leaves at 8.
