Brilliant Place Value! year2!

What do you already know about place value?

Learning Objective

At the end of the lesson you will understand place value for Year Two, and practise solving problems at four levels: Ilham (easiest), Lime (easy), Lemon (medium), Grapefruit (hard), and Orange (very hard).

What is Place Value?

Place value is understanding what each digit in a number really means.

Why Is Place Value Important?

It helps us know how big or small a number is and how to read or write numbers correctly.

Breaking Down Numbers

Each number has units (ones), tens, and sometimes hundreds. Each place means something different.

Look at This Example

In 35, the 3 means 3 tens (30), and the 5 means 5 ones.

Vocabulary You Need

Digit: Any single number Tens: Groups of ten Ones: Single units Hundreds: Groups of one hundred

Let’s Try! Count the Tens and Ones

What do you see in 47? What does each digit mean?
