Conditionals


  • Conditionals zijn voorwaardelijke zinnen: als ..... , dan ......
  • Bestaat uit een hoofdzin en een zinsdeel met if.
  • Er zijn vier soorten conditionals: zero, first, second, third.

First conditional

If you don't listen to me right now, I will remove you from this class.
(Als je niet luistert.... dan.....)

if + present simple   /     will + infinitive verb

Wanneer gebruiken we de 'first conditional'? 

Wordt gebruikt als het best waarschijnlijk is dat iets gaat gebeuren (maar niet 100% zeker!)
Wanneer het om een alledaagse situatie gaat

If zin - hoofdzin
Present simple -  will+ heel werkwoord
If Bob leaves school, we will be sad.

Second conditional

Gebruik: als het gaat over iets wat niet zo waarschijnlijk is dat het ooit zal gebeuren/ iets in je fantasie, nu of in de toekomst.


Vorm: if + past simple, would + hele werkwoord

If I were you, I would do that

If  I knew Daniel was leaving us, would be   diappointed.

If you bought that car, you would not have to go on foot.

- If clause: if + present simple
- Main clause: will + infinitive*
He will help you if you ask him
Usage: to talk about a real or very likely situation

*Infinitive = whole verb (without to). Examples: 'be,' 'go,' 'make,' 'study,' etc
