Comparing Community Life in Religions
Comparing Community Life in Religions
What do you already know about how different religious and non-religious communities express their beliefs?
Learning Objective
At the end of the lesson you will be able to compare a belief or community practice across Christian, Muslim, Hindu and non-religious communities.
Starter: What do you know?
Discuss in pairs: What comes to mind when you think about festivals or community events in different religions? Write down at least two examples.
Beliefs and Community Practices
Christian & Muslim
Hindu: Diwali festival, temple worship, community feasts. Non-Religious: National holidays, volunteering, community centres.
Christian: Sunday worship, Christmas celebrations, charity work (e.g., church food banks). Muslim: Friday prayers, Eid festivals, zakat (charity giving).
Hindu & Non-Religious
Task: Festival Research
In small groups, research one festival from any of the worldviews discussed. Prepare three key facts to share with the class. Example: What is celebrated, how, who is involved?
Discussion: Community Action
Share one example of how different communities help others. How does this action reflect their beliefs or values? Example: Church soup kitchens, Muslim zakat, Hindu food drives, local volunteering.
Analytical Thinking Challenge
Pick two communities. How are their beliefs or festivals similar? How are they different? Use an example for each point. Write your answer in your book.
Next Steps
Reflect: What surprised you most about other communities? Extension: Research a local interfaith or community group — what do they do to support people of all beliefs?
