Comparisons

You use a comparison when you want to compare something to something else. 

mind syllables, the exceptions and spelling

Syllables

general rule for one-syllable words; 

you add -er to the adjective

Short - Shorter 

General rule for multiple-syllable words; 

you add the word 'more' to the adjective 

Intelligent - more intelligent

The exceptions

Does the word end in -y ?

You don't need to look at the amount of syllables 

you just add -ier and remove the y

Happy - happier 

irregular adjectives (good and bad) 

good - better      bad - worse

Spelling

If the adjective ends in a vowel followed by a consonant (klinker gevold door medeklinker) the consonant doubles. 

Big - bigger 

You look ..... than before (happy)
