What are Prefixes?
A prefix is a word part that is added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning. For example, adding the prefix 'un-' to the word 'happy' changes its meaning to 'unhappy.'

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

Explain that prefixes can change the meaning of words, and provide examples. Encourage students to think of other examples.
Common Prefixes

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

List some common prefixes, and explain their meanings. Encourage students to think of other prefixes they know.
What are Suffixes?
A suffix is a word part that is added to the end of a word to change its meaning. For example, adding the suffix '-ful' to the word 'joy' changes its meaning to 'joyful.'

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

Explain that suffixes can change the meaning of words, and provide examples. Encourage students to think of other examples.
Common Suffixes
Some common suffixes include: '-able', '-ful', '-less', '-ment', '-ness', '-tion', and '-sion'.

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

List some common suffixes, and explain their meanings. Encourage students to think of other suffixes they know.
Prefix or Suffix?
In some cases, it can be difficult to determine whether a word part is a prefix or a suffix. For example, is '-able' in 'comfortable' a prefix or a suffix?

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Explain that some word parts can be either prefixes or suffixes, depending on the word they are attached to. Encourage students to think about the meaning of the word and the word part to determine whether it is a prefix or a suffix.
Prefix and Suffix Match
Match the prefix to the correct word: 'un-', 'pre-', 'dis-', 're-'

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Create an interactive activity where students match prefixes to words. Provide feedback and explanations for correct and incorrect answers.
Prefix and Suffix Challenge
Create as many words as you can using the prefix 're-' and the suffix '-ful'.

Slide 10 - Tekstslide

Encourage students to use their knowledge of prefixes and suffixes to create new words. Provide feedback and praise for creative and correct responses.
Write down 3 things you learned in this lesson.

Slide 11 - Open vraag

Have students enter three things they learned in this lesson. With this they can indicate their own learning efficiency of this lesson.
Write down 2 things you want to know more about.

Slide 12 - Open vraag

Here, students enter two things they would like to know more about. This not only increases involvement, but also gives them more ownership.
Ask 1 question about something you haven't quite understood yet.

Slide 13 - Open vraag

The students indicate here (in question form) with which part of the material they still have difficulty. For the teacher, this not only provides insight into the extent to which the students understand/master the material, but also a good starting point for the next lesson.
