Looking back on last week: The Past

My grandparents are Mexican, but before this summer, I didn't understand much Spanish. So my brother and I went to my grandparents’ house in Mexico to change that. When we arrived, our grandparents were waiting to greet us at the airport in the town of Merida. We didn’t use any books to learn Spanish, but we didn’t need them. We went with our grandmother to the local market every day, where we chose something tasty for our dinner that day. One day, we were listening to Mexican songs on the radio while we were cooking together, and I realised I could understand all the words!

Why do people travel?
If you talk to 1– your friends or listen to 2– other people planning trips, you’ll soon realise that everyone has very different motives for 3– travel. Some people like to choose places where they might bump into 4 the rich and famous on the beach, Mykonos in Greece, for example. Others want to drown themselves in 5– art and 6– history, as well as 7 the beauty of historical architecture such as you find in 8– places like Rome and Venice. Or they might prefer 9 the 21st-century craziness and vibe of New York or Tokyo! People who are into physical activities often choose 10 a particular destination because they want 11 a challenge. They want to ride a motorbike across 12 an empty desert somewhere or cut their way through dangerous jungle undergrowth. The reasons for 13– travel are endless. However, one thing is sure, in my opinion: you simply can’t beat 14 a day on 15 a beach!
