The Journey of the Quran: From Revelation to Impact

What do you already know about the Quran’s story?

Learning Objective

At the end of the lesson you will understand how the Quran was revealed, preserved, and how it changed the world.

How the Quran Began

Prophet’s Age

The Angel Jibreel visited Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the Cave of Hira and told him to "Read" ("Iqra").

First Revelation

Prophet Muhammad was about 40 years old when the first message came.

The Gradual Revelation

The Quran was revealed slowly, over 23 years, starting in Makkah and later in Madinah.

Early and Later Teachings

In Makkah, teachings focused on belief in one God and morality. In Madinah, new rules for community and daily life were revealed.

Memorisation and Preservation

Prophet Muhammad and his companions memorised and recited the Quran. Verses were written on parchment, leaves, bones, and stones.

Compilation of the Quran

After the Prophet passed away, the Quran was compiled into a book during Caliph Abu Bakr’s time. Caliph Uthman made one official version.

The Quran’s Lasting Impact

Unchanged for Centuries

The Quran shaped laws, ethics, science, and the cultures of many countries. It spread the message of Islam worldwide.

Influence Around the World

Muslims believe the Quran has not changed for over 1,400 years, making it the most memorised book in the world.
