Learning Objective

At the end of the lesson you will be able to understand and use prepositions like in, on, under, by, behind, next to, and in front of.

What Is a Preposition?

A preposition is a word that tells us where something is. For example: The cat is under the table.

Using 'In'

Use 'in' when something is inside something else. Example: The ball is in the box.

Using 'On'

Use 'on' when something is on the surface of something. Example: The book is on the table.

Using 'Under'

Use 'under' when something is below something else. Example: The teddy is under the chair.

Using 'By'

Use 'by' when something is very close to something. Example: The girl is by the bench.

Using 'Behind'

Use 'behind' when something is at the back of something. Example: The boy is behind the tree.

Using 'Next To'

Use 'next to' when something is beside something else. Example: The lamp is next to the sofa.

Using 'In Front Of'

Use 'in front of' when something is before something else. Example: The dog is in front of the door.
