Slide 1 - Tekstslide

Today
Recap: Abiotic, biotic and levels of ecology.

Symbiosis

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

SYMBIOSIS
A special relationship
when two organisms
from different species
live together.

For example: nemo is a (clown) fish and lives together with an anemone which is a cnidarian.

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Symbiotic relationships:
- parasitism (+/-)
- mutualism (+/+)
- commensalism (+/o)

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Dominance hierarchies
• Some animals that live in groups have a dominance hierarchy.
The top ranked individual gets access to the resources without conflict.
• It reduces hostile behaviour in the group.

For example in: baboons, wolves, chickens

Assign a food web- 4 minutes
Sloths

The sloth from Brazil hangs upside down in the trees of the rainforest for most of its life. It feeds on leaves and young buds. Once a week he descends to relieve himself in a hole. Among other things, dung beetles = mestkevers are attracted to this. Microscopic algae live in the sloth's coat, which gives it its green camouflage color. Between the hairs there are also small insects that live on the algae and hair lice that use the hair as food.
Bacteria and yeast live on the food waste in his intestines.

Use the bold organisms to construct a food web, take a picture and put it on the next slide
