  • A) I am doing - he is talking - they are working --> right now
  • I do - he talks - they work --> in general
  • B) I always do = every time
  • I'm always doing = very often

  • A) ps: like - want - need - prefer
  • B) think: ps
  • C) ps: see - hear - smell - taste

  • B) Regular: -ed  (visited) - Irregular: do - did - done

6 - I was doing (past continuous)

  • A) They were playing tennis. I/he/she/it was + ing  
    you/we/they were + ing
  • B) What for? > in past, longer
  • C) pc = middle of action, longer
    ps = complete action, 1 moment
  • D) Together: He phoned while we were having dinner.
  • E) ps: know, want > I wanted - I knew (not: I was wanting/knowing)

  • A) He has lost his key. > lost it, still lost = have/has + vt.dw.
  • B) What for? > connection with now
    I have cut my finger.
  • C) He has gone/ He has been to Italy. Gone = he is there/ been = he is back
  • D) just (short time ago) - yet (until now) - already (happened)
    I haven't seen that movie yet.
  • E) past simple: She has just gone out. / She went out.

  • A) started in past - period until now.
    I have travelled a lot.
  • B) period until now: recently - in the last few days - so far    >    Have you heard anything from him recently?
  • C) today - this evening - this year    > I've drunk 4 cups of coffee today.
  • D) 1st time: He has never driven a car.  - It's the 1st time he has driven a car.

9 - I have been doing (present perfect continuous)

  • A) I/she have/has been reading.
  • What for? > recently/just stopped - connection with now
  • I can't breath, I've been running. (stopped running, out of breath now = result)
  • B) It's been raining for two hours. (started raining, still raining/just stopped)
  • She's been playing tennis since she was 8. (repeated over period of time)
  • C) I am doing (pr. c) = right now
  • I have been doing (pr. p c) = until now

  • A) They have been married for 20y. (pr.per)
  • They are married. (pr. simple)
  • He is in hospital. (pr. s) - He has been in hospital since Monday. (pr. per)
  • B) I have lived. (pr. per) > still happening
  • I have been living (pr. per cont.) > how long
  • pr. per: know - like - believe
  • C) I have lived/been living.  - I have always lived.
  • D) I haven't seen him since Monday. (pr.per)

12 - for/since - when/how long

  • A) for + since = how long happening
  • I've been waiting for 2 hours (duration) / since 8 (specific moment/time).
  • They've been married 10y. Have they been married 10y. They haven't been M for 10y.
  • all: I've lived here all my life. (no: for all..)
  • - in/for: They haven't had a holiday in 10y.
  • B) when: When did it start raining? (pa.s)
  • How long: How long has it been raining? (pr.per)
  • C) it is / it has been 
  • It's two years / It's been two years since I last saw Joe. = haven't seen for 2y
