Tips from the teacher:
  • Stay calm! Focus on your breathing and get your focus back (it's okay to not know all the words)
  • If you don't know a word/part of a sentence, try to guess by listening to the rest of the sentence + emotion of the speaker
  • Predict what the audio is going to be about by reading the title, questions and answers
  • Depending on the sort of questions: use a strategy
  • If it works for you; take quick notes during an exercise/exam (write down keywords)

Need to summarize (samenvatten): 
Listenen globally (globaal luisteren: niet te veel in de details opgaan) to understand the red line of the story/dialogue
Need specific information:
Listen to the details, detailled listening!
Pay really good attention to keywords in questions and answers (vooral zelf. nw en werkwoorden)

Increase your vocabulary:
  • Practice listening by watching English-speaking movies, series, audiobooks, vlogs, videos, etc.
  • Read (books, articles, etc.) and write English
  • Duolingo 
  • Write down words you don't know in your notebook + look up the meaning + use them in a sentence
