Biodiversity decline (insects), Nitrogen problem (het stikstofprobleem), climate change and pollution (plastics)

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

Biodiversity decline (insects)
Watch this video and:
--> note down as many causes for the decline of insects as you can. (You have to be able to describe each cause in your test)

--> note down as many solutions as possible, you can do yourself to stop the decline of insects in your own neighbourhood/garden/balcony.

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

Slide 3 - Video

Biodiversity decline (insects)

In class you have made notes during watching this video. Now you can:
--> describe at least 3 causes of insect decline
--> describe at least 2 solutions to improve the biodiversity of insects in your own neighbourhood, garden or balcony.

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

The nitrogen problem
--> What is the relation between nitrogen and the decline of biodiversity (the amount of species of plants and animals)?

--> Write down several examples of solutions (you can use) to reduce the amount of nitrogen. (Interesting fact: several of these solutions also help to reduce the next prolbem: climate change)

Slide 6 - Video

Slide 7 - Video

the nitrogen problem
In class you have made notes during watching this video. Now you can:
--> Explain why an increase of nitrogen causes biodiversity decline.
--> describe several things you can do to reduce the amount of nitrogen (which in many cases also helps to reduce your inpact on climate change).

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Climate change
--> Why is (the) climate changing? (This is different from "what is causing climate change; now you have to explain it).

--> What is ocean acidification and what are causes and effect?

--> Come up with at least 4 real examples of things you can do to stop climate change (which examples are related to the nitrogen problem as well?)

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Slide 10 - Video

Climate change
In class you have made notes during watching this video. Now you can answer the following questions:
--> Why is (the) climate changing?
--> What is ocean acidification and what are causes and effect?
--> Which 4 real examples of things can you do to stop climate change? (which examples are related to the nitrogen problem as well?)

Slide 11 - Tekstslide

Pollution: plastics
How do plastics become part of our food chain? (Yes, also in your body it is possible to find plastics)
--> Describe your answer as best as you can, inspired by this video.

Slide 12 - Tekstslide

Slide 13 - Video

How can plastics become part of our food chain?

Discussion in class.

Slide 15 - Video

What are the advantages of intensive (livestock) farming for a farmer?

Slide 16 - Open vraag

List 5 disadvantages of intensive livestock farming:

Slide 17 - Open vraag

What is eutrophication and why is this a problem?

Slide 18 - Open vraag

1. Increase in algae and duck weed
2. water less clear.  Light can't enter the water. Rooted plants start to die.
3. Predatory fish can't see their prey and die
4.  Daphnia decline + increase in algae
 5. algae live a short life and die. Many decomposers (bacteria). Less and less oxygen, a lot of CO2. In the end (almost) no life
possible
Algal bloom
