When to use the Past Simple

-Als een actie is afgerond en voorbij is in het verleden.

- Bij korte handelingen/acties/gebeurtenissen.

How to form

Regelmatig:

Stam ww      + D -> like - liked

                         + ED -> walk - walked

                         + IED -> study - studied  

Onregelmatig:

2e rijtje onregelmatige werkwoorden!

Signaalwoorden: LADY WT

Last weekend, week, month, year, etc.

Ago (2 months ago, 3 weeks ago, a week ago, etc.)

Dates in the past (in 1912, in World War 2, etc)

Yesterday

When I was a kid/child/a baby/2 years old, etc.

This morning/evening/afternoon

Questions & Negatives

Questions:  Did + hele ww

-> Did you eat my toast?

Negatives:  Did + not + hele ww

-> I did not eat your toast. 

PAST CONTINUOUS

When to use

- Als iets in het verleden gebeurd is en langer duurde 

- Als twee dingen tegelijk gebeurden in het verleden 

(je gebruikt de past continuous voor hetgene 

wat het langste bezig is)

Some examples

- Yesterday, the sun was shining all day.

- They weren´t wearing t-shirts this morning.

- I was walking towards the bus stop when I saw my dad.

- We were leaving the building as we heard them scream.

How to form the Past Continuous

was/were + stam ww + ing

- I was walking.
