Past Simple vs Past Continuous

Je gebruikt de Past Continuous (was/were +ing) voor iets wat langer duurde in het verleden. Het omschrijft de situatie. Je kan er meestal bij denken “was/waren aan het …”

De Past Simple (verleden tijd zonder -ing)  beschrijft vaak een korte, afgesloten actie of handeling.

• He was doing his homework when his mother said dinner was ready.
• They were having dinner when the doorbell rang.
• She saw a squirrel when she was walking to school.

Fill in the correct form of the verb

1. He _____ (to laugh) like a maniac when the portal _____ (to appear)
2. She _____ (not + to see) anything while they _____ (to prepare) her surprise party.
3. You _____ (to read) your English book when the bell _____ (to ring)
