What is a stimulus?

1. Something you feel when you touch a sharp object.
2. Information from your surroundings.
3. A signal that's being transported through the body.
4. A part of the central nervous system.

A stimulus can be picked up by a sensory organ. Then it is being converted into an impulse. What is an impulse?

1. A chemical reaction of the body.
2. An electrical signal.
3. The same as a stimulus.

Hearing

With your ear you can detect with sound waves.

The ears

auricle = pinna

How can you hear sound?

The way sound travels:

Pinna - Ear canal - Eardrum - Hammer - Anvil - Stirrup - Cochlea (creates nerve impulse) - Auditory nerve --> cerebrum (brain) 

Eustachian tube

Eustachian tube connects to your nasal cavity/throat

Pronounce: (yoo·stay·kee·uhn·choob)

The ears

Balance ear

Semicircular ducts --> filled with fluid. 

Detects the direction of movement and acceleration.

Muscles respond, mantains your balance.

-Ossicles (3 ear bones) make 

oval window vibrate, fluid

in chambers of cochlea starts

to vibrate too.

-Produces impulses in sensory

cells

-Auditory nerve transmits impulses

to brain
