Social welfare

• In exchange for the low wages, the government started with social welfare. 

Willem Drees

• He was prime minister of the Netherlands from 1948 to 1958.
• He was the leader of the PVDA (labour party) and worked with the KVP (Catholic People's Party).
• This coalition was called Roman Red.

Welfare state

The welfare state arose.

• Pension was instated (1947/1957)
• Unemployment act (1952)
• Social welfare (=bijstand) (1963)
• Disability insurance act (1967)
