Life of Pi

After the tragic sinking of a cargo ship, one solitary lifeboat remains bobbing on the wild, blue Pacific. The only survivors from the wreck are a sixteen-year- old boy named Pi, a hyena, a zebra (with a broken leg), a female orang- utan and a 450 pound Royal Bengal Tiger. The scene is set for one of the most extraordinary works of fiction.

Life of Pi

During the reading and discussing of the book, we will find out that Pi is an extraordinary boy, who is, above all else, a great storyteller.

You will be asked to demonstrate your storytelling abilities too.

Aims

•  You will learn what the major themes are in Life of Pi;
• You will learn what the characteristics of fables, allegories, post-colonial fiction, magical realism, survival stories and religious stories are;
• You will learn how a good story is build and written;
• You will learn how to write and recite your own short story.
