If only/wish

Gebruik

1. Je kunt wish/If only + Past Simple gebruiken om aan te geven dat je echt wilt dat een huidige situatie anders wordt.

E.g.: I wish I had more time to relax.

Conditional Chain Reaction

How to Play:

1. Get into groups of 3–4.

2. One group member reads the prompt card I give you.

3. They then use that prompt to think of a conditional sentence.

   • E.g. "If I had a time machine, I would visit ancient Egypt."

4. The next student responds with a connected idea in a new conditional sentence. Start with the second part of the sentence.

   • E.g. "If you visited ancient Egypt, you might meet Cleopatra."

5. Keep building the story, one conditional at a time!

6. Try to use different conditional types: zero, first, second, third.

Tips for Success:

Be creative and have fun!

Don’t worry about being perfect. Focus on fluency.

Listen actively to each other’s ideas and build on them

Example

If I became invisible, I would sneak into a movie.

If you snuck into a movie, you wouldn’t buy a ticket.

If nobody bought tickets, cinemas would go bankrupt.

If cinemas went bankrupt, directors would make films for streaming only.

If that happened, I would miss going out with friends.

2. Read your crisis card.

3. Discuss: What happened? What went wrong? How could it have been prevented?

4. Come up with at least three sentences:

   • One about the present/future (imaginary)

   • One about the past (regret)

   • One with “I wish” or “If only”

Fake News Fallout Post

On your own...

1. Choose one crisis you found interesting.

2. Write a short social media-style post (3-5 sentences) reacting to it.

3. Use a conditional or “I wish / If only” phrase to show your opinion or emotion.
