Have to gebruik je om te zeggen wat noodzakelijk of verplicht is:

We gebruiken must ook om te zeggen dat iets noodzakelijk of verplicht is, vooral als het onderwerp of het werkwoord niet een persoon is of wanneer het een lijdende vorm is:

We gebruiken must om te verwijzen naar iets wat zeker waar is. Het tegenovergestelde hiervan is can’t:
He must be bored because he’s not challenged to his full potential at his current job.
You can’t have finished the report already – Susan still has to send you the newest poll numbers!
Mustn’t betekent niet toegestaan (not allowed), maar don’t have to betekent niet noodzakelijk (not necessary):
