Motown begins
Motown was started in 1959 by Berry Gordy Jr. in Detroit, USA.
The name Motown comes from “Motor Town”, the nickname for Detroit.

🎵 Gordy wanted to make music for everyone — no matter where you came from.
He created a new sound: soul music with pop and R&B. It had strong beats and
happy melodies.

The studio was small — just a little house called Hitsville U.S.A.
But from this house came many, many hit songs.

🎵 Let’s listen to: “My Girl” – The Temptations (1964)
This is a classic Motown hit with a simple, sweet melody.
