1. Homonyms  (= words that sound the same)
Last week, we talked about the difference between "they're/there/their". Today we will look at more homonyms.
You're: the general rule is: when there is an apostrophe ' there is something missing. There are always two words squashed into one. Here the A is missing. You are. When writing "you're" always say it as two words to make sure you have the right one. He says you're free this saturday.
Your: means jouw. This is a posessive. Just like their, it ends in an R. If you can swap these in a sentence, you're good. Is this your book?

2. Homonyms
It's and its also sound the same, what's the difference?

It's: here again, there is a letter missing: the i. it is actually two words in one: it is. Ah, it's such a shame you can't be there tonight.

Its: this is a possisive (bezittelijk) again. We say "zijn/haar" in Dutch. Here you can replace the word with your again, although it might be a bit strange. The table and its legs, The dog lost its bone.

Repetition They're/There/Their
They're - there - their They all sound he same! When do you use which one?
1. They're is actually two words. An apostrophe (hoge komma) is always used when something is left out. Here, we are missing the A. When typing always say it as to words. Is it still correct? "They're gone"
2. There indicates a place. If you leave out the T you get the word "here", also a place. When writing, think about that. "I live there"
3. Their is a posessive word, it's used the same as "mine, your, her". If you can swap it for "your" in a sentence you've got the right word. "it's their house"

Repetition
Vorm van to be + ing werkwoord
We know we can use the present continuous for talking about somehting happening right now e.g. I am walking to school. But we can also use it to talk about the future, specifically for arrangements in the future. This means you have already planned something.

"I am staying at my sister's when I get to Boston"
"She isn't going on a holiday this year" NB: you can say she isn't or she's not
