- They are trying to gain their emotional sympathy.

What to do?: In your group of 8 (defence - prosecution) you are going to listen to each others opening statements. 
Arguments: think of arguments you can use against your opponent. Listen carefully to their statement. 

- Try to make at least 4 arguments per group

- Anticipate on what your opponent can say after hearing your opening statement

Discussion
Make sure you are stating facts in the discussion. If you want to illustrate something in your discussion you can 

(For example; take a hairbrush with you to show the judge that a hairbrush isn't scary)

- Shows you that preparation about the case in the proper way can overthrow and surprise your opponent significantly. 

- The importance of questions to a possible witness can really make your case stronger.

Witness
If you want to have a witness like in the Suits or Legally blonde Clip; YOU CAN. Just make sure both parties involved (defence-prosecution) are aware of the witness, and make sure you prep your witness.
