Introductie

Part of the British Values series. In this lesson, pupils will look at the word 'fair' through reading the story 'Farmer Duck'. They will then use their ipads to take pictures of their friends working together.

Instructies

We have designed our British Values lessons so that teachers can pick up and teach a topic to their class with confidence.
We have chosen to use a balance of interactive tools and 'unplugged' creative activities.

Lessons can be taught directly from the LessonUp slides but work best when children have access to the pupil app
Lessonup.app

If you have any questions or want to know more, please do get in touch. We'd love to show you how LessonUp can make 'Every Class Better Than The Last'

Listen to Farmer Duck by Martin Waddell

You can read Farmer Duck to the class or there are some really great resources on the internet.

What do you think the duck

meant when he said 'quack'?

Children can add photos that they take directly to this slide. You can then use them for discussion as a class.

Who helps the duck?

Children can add photos that they take directly to this slide. You can then use them for discussion as a class.

Why doesn't the farmer

help the duck?

This question has been added to gather the children's views.

You may need to offer a word bank or scaffolding to support with vocabulary.

The duck was treated unfairly by the farmer

Remind children of the word 'unfair' and what this means.

You might wish to look at other words which have the prefix 'un' to explore how this changes the meaning of a root word.

The animals worked as a team as this made it fair for everyone.

This image from the story may need further discussion.

Do the children agree with how the animals decided to take action against the farmer? What would they have done? What if the farmer had been hurt?

We need to work together to make our world fair.

I know what fair and unfair means

This poll can give you a quick snapshot of the class and an insight into who may need to explore the issue in more detail. The results will be displayed anonymously but you can look into how each child has answered the poll in the assessment view.

There is a how to guide here.
