Use: For a completed action or event at a definite point in the past. 
ex: We played volleyball last weekend.
For actions or events that happened one after another. 
Ex:  Jane got up,had a shower,got dressed and left the house. 
 
Form: regular verbs + ed                                    If the verbs end in a consonant + -y we change the -y to -i, and add -ed. 
ex: work > -ed > worked                                        study > studied cry> cried
Verbs end in -e:                                                       If the verbs end in a short accent vowel + a consonant we double the consonant. 
dance>danced                                                         stop > stopped , plan>planned.
