Slide 1 - Tekstslide

Let's look at infrastructure!

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

What do you think of
when you hear the word
INFRASTRUCTURE?

Slide 3 - Woordweb

Infrastructure

"All fixed elements that are designed to transport
people, goods, energy, waste and information."

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

Based on the definition,
can you think of any examples?

Slide 5 - Woordweb

Wind power plants
Rivers
Railroads
(wireles) Telecom towers
Sewers

Roads
Water treatment systems
Data centres
Nuclear power plants
Seaports

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

What does it transport?
People & Goods
Energy
Information
Waste & Water
Nuclear Power Plant
Telecom Towers
Airport
Water Treatment Systems
Wind Power Plant
Road
Sewers
Data center
Railroad
Seaport

Slide 7 - Sleepvraag

What happens when the power grid
is unavailable for a day?

Slide 8 - Woordweb

What would be worse?
One day without energy/electricity
One day without communcation/information/internet

Slide 9 - Poll

What could cause the power grid or communication/information to be unavailable for a day?

Slide 10 - Woordweb

Climate change influences infrastructure
Accute climate effects:
    storms, hurricanes, floods, heat waves

Chronic climate effects:
drought, heat, more rainfall in general, rise in temperature

All these causes can damage elements of infrastructure.

Slide 11 - Tekstslide

Slide 12 - Link

Prepare a pitch!
Divide the group into 4 groups.

Each group does research on a type of infrastructure (People&Goods, Energy, Information, Waste&Water).

Prepare a pitch (30-45 seconds) stating why your type of infrastructure is the most important one.

Make sure you try to convince people!

Slide 13 - Tekstslide

Slide 14 - Tekstslide

Which type of infrastructure do you think is the most important type to your country?
People & Goods (railroads, airports, seaports, etc)
Energy (Nuclear power plants, the power grid, etc.)
Information (telecom towers, data centers, etc.)
Waste & Water (sewers, water treatment systems, water pipes, etc.)

Slide 15 - Poll

Make a video
- Divide the class into 4 groups

- Each group picks a type of infrastructure

- How vulnerable is that type of infrastructure in your country?

- Which elements are at risk when it comes to climate change?

- Make a one-minute video about the risks for your type of infrastructure in your country

- The 4 videos per country can be made into 1 video about the country
