Exploring Diversity in Communities
Exploring Diversity in Communities
What do you already know about diversity within communities?
Learning Objective
At the end of the lesson you will be able to give an example of diversity within one real-world community.
What is Diversity Within Communities?
Diversity means that people within the same group or community can have different backgrounds, beliefs, and practices. Communities are made up of individuals with their own unique perspectives.
Diversity in Christian Denominations
Most Christians believe in God and Jesus, but each denomination has distinct traditions and ways of understanding faith and worship.
How Christians Pray
Christians pray in many ways: some use written prayers, others pray freely; some pray alone, others in groups. Worship styles, music, and rituals can be different.
Key Beliefs
Diversity Among Anglicans
The Anglican Church can be very traditional or more modern, with different types of services, music, and dress. Some Anglican churches are very formal, others feel more relaxed.
Diversity Among Catholics
Catholic communities may use Latin or local language, have unique saints and festivals, and their worship mixes local customs with shared Catholic beliefs.
Diversity Among Protestants
Protestant groups include Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals and many more. Each has their own way of worshipping, praying, and interpreting the Bible.
Diversity in Muslim Communities
Muslims may follow different cultural traditions based on country or group. Daily prayers are central, but languages, dress and festival traditions vary between Shia, Sunni and cultural groups.
Diversity in Hindu Traditions
Hindus may pray at home or temple, alone or in groups. Traditions, gods, celebrations and languages can be unique to each region or community.
Diversity in Non-Religious Groups
Non-religious people can have a range of beliefs about life and morals. Some focus on science and human rights, others on environmentalism, but each group values variety and discussion.
Reflection: Diversity in My Community
Think about your local community. Can you find an example of diversity within one group, such as a school or club? What makes them different, and what brings them together?
