After Poland and Western Europe were conquered the situation looked like this:

The Nazis tried to bomb Britain so that they would surrender

The German army then prepated to invade the Soviet Union:

• Hitler wanted lebensraum for the German people
• Hitler wanted to defeat communism
• Hitler needed oil

The Germans move fast but come to a standstill near Leningrad, Moscow and Stalingrad

Japan

In the meantime Japan is fighting for an Asian empire

• They conquered western colonies like Vietnam and the Dutch East Indies
• Fearing that the USA will get involved they decide to strike first

The Allied counterattack

The USA helps both Britain and the Soviet Union with goods --> after Pearl Harbor they join the fight against Germany and Japan

• They land in Normandy in june 1944: D-day
