Learning Objective
At the end of the lesson you will be able to use question tags in simple sentences to check information and ask short questions.
What is a Question Tag?
A question tag is a short question you add to the end of a sentence, like: "It's sunny, isn't it?"
Look at the Example
You are happy, aren't you? We use a question tag to check if something is true.
Why Do We Use Them?
We use question tags to check facts, ask for agreement, or make small talk.
Positive Sentences
Add a negative tag to a positive sentence: She is tall, isn't she?
Negative Sentences
Add a positive tag to a negative sentence: He isn’t late, is he?
Common Question Tags
"isn't it?" / "aren't you?" / "don't they?" / "doesn’t he?" We use the same verb as in the sentence.
Structure
Positive Sentences
[Positive sentence], [negative tag]? Example: You are hungry, aren't you?
[Negative sentence], [positive tag]? Example: They aren't here, are they?
Negative Sentences
With 'Do', 'Does', 'Did'
Use 'do', 'does', or 'did' in the tag. Example: You like ice cream, don't you?
