Exploring Renewable Energy Sources
Exploring Renewable Energy Sources
What do you already know about renewable energy?
Learning Objective
At the end of the lesson you will be able to identify different types of renewable energy sources, describe how they work, and explain their benefits for the environment.
What is Renewable Energy?
Renewable energy comes from natural sources that do not run out, such as the sun, wind, and water. These sources are considered clean because they produce little or no pollution.
Warm-Up: Online Quiz
Use Kahoot! to answer quick questions about familiar and unfamiliar energy sources. Think about what makes some energy sources renewable.
Types of Renewable Energy
Solar & Wind
Hydro & Geothermal
Solar: Energy from sunlight, used to generate electricity with solar panels. Wind: Energy from moving air, captured by turbines.
Hydro: Electricity produced from moving water, often with dams. Geothermal: Comes from heat inside the Earth, used for power and heating.
Main Activity: Digital Model Creation
In pairs, use Canva to create an infographic showing one type of renewable energy, how it works, and its environmental benefits. Be sure to include both text and images.
Benefits and Challenges
Renewable energy reduces pollution and helps fight climate change, but sometimes depends on weather and location. Discuss with a partner using a Padlet board: What challenges might we face using more renewables?
Exit Ticket: Online Poll
Complete the Google Forms exit ticket: "Which renewable energy source do you think is most promising for the future, and why?"
