What is an Arthropod?

Arthropods are animals with exoskeletons (hard outer shells), segmented bodies, and jointed legs. Examples include insects, spiders, crabs and butterflies!

Butterflies do have exoskeletons but they are a little soft when they undergo metamorphosis!!!
Other examples are larvae of moths,

So would you say they have an exoskeleton? We need to clarify!



Features of Insects

Insects have six legs, a body divided into three parts (head, thorax, abdomen), and often two pairs of wings.

Butterfly Metamorphosis

Butterflies transform from egg to larva (caterpillar), then pupa (chrysalis), and finally adult. This change is called metamorphosis.

Metamorphosis: What Does It Mean?

‘Metamorphosis’ comes from the Greek 'meta' (change) and 'morphe' (form). It means a change of form or structure.

Metanoia

A mental transformation; a change of mind or thinking differently.

A physical transformation, like a caterpillar changing into a butterfly.
